One 85-year-old grandfather thought he was just getting another T-shirt for Father’s Day. At the meantime, When an Ontario, Canada, mom-to-be found out she was expecting, there was one very special person she couldn’t wait to surprise.
Bianca Rollo, the 85-year-old man’s granddaughter, was thrilled to tell her “Papa” that she was pregnant. She wanted the announcement to be special, knowing that her grandfather, Harry Rollo, would be excited to “re-live” the relationship that he had with Bianca growing up.
“I am the first grandchild. So my Papa [grandfather] and I have a different relationship than my brother and sister,” she said. “When I was younger we would always do things together like go on boat rides at the cottage, motorcycle rides, garage sale shopping and go out for ice cream. He also adores my husband Ryan [Rawn] and our little Yorkie Audrey.”
“He loves T-shirts so we made him one for Father’s Day that said ‘Great grandpa to be…December 2017,'” Bianca writes in the post. When Harry first opened the gift, he laughed and said, “You know how much I hate T-shirts.” But as soon as he realized what it said, he was speechless. All he could do was cry and hug his granddaughter.
As for Papa, he keeps referring to the baby as “she,” Rollo said, though she and husband Rawn don’t actually know the gender yet.
But when they find out, Papa will too. He’s hosting a gender reveal party at his house in a few weeks.
Harry’s wife (and Bianca’s grandmother), passed away in 2008, which made the news even more special for everyone in the family. “Over the last few years something has been missing in our family,” she wrote. “Even though I know nothing will replace her, it makes me so happy to be able to bring new life into our family.”
Let’s watch what’s the reaction of the grand-grandpa-to-be! I love his laugh and joyful tears.
